Asquith Golf Club

Asquith Golf Club is at Mount Colah, in the bushland on Sydney’s upper north shore, just off the M1. The club has served the local area for more than seventy-five years.

The course plays as a par 70 of 5,494 metres from the blue markers and 5,208 from the white, and a par 71 of 5,055 metres for women.

What it asks of you

Bushland is the constraint and the character. The holes are cut into it rather than laid across it, so the corridors are defined by scrub that does not give a ball back, and the round is a sequence of tee shots that have to finish in a specific place.

The club describes its holes as pointing in all directions, which on a sloping bushland site is worth taking literally: the wind is never behind you for long, and the same club plays differently on consecutive holes.

At under 5,500 metres it is short, and the scorecard is not the difficulty. Keeping the ball on the mown grass is.

Getting there and when to go

The club is at Mount Colah near Hornsby, off the Mount Colah exit of the M1 Pacific Motorway, about forty minutes from central Sydney.

The course plays all year. March to November gives the best of it; Sydney summers are humid. Tee times are booked in advance.
