Storws Wen Golf Club

Storws Wen was built in 1996 by Ken and Eleri Jones, who were also the club’s first captains. It is a nine-hole course at Brynteg, near Benllech on Anglesey.

Four of the nine have a second tee position, so the course can be played as eighteen. It is a par 70 over that full round, and sources give the length as 5,441 or 5,569 yards.

What it asks of you

A nine-hole course with alternate tees is a design problem most clubs do not solve well: the second time round has to feel like a different hole, not the same one from a few yards back. Storws Wen changes the angle rather than only the distance on the four holes it doubles.

The greens are what the course is known for, and they are the reason it holds up. On a short course, putting surfaces are where the difficulty has to live if it is going to live anywhere.

This is Anglesey, so wind is a factor even a few miles inland, and the ground rolls enough that flat lies are not guaranteed.

The club is open to visitors and appears in the North Wales course guides. The points below summarise what recurs. These are other people’s opinions, not ours: we have not played the course, and we name and quote no one.

Getting there and when to go

The club is at Brynteg near Benllech on the east coast of Anglesey, about twenty minutes from Bangor and ninety from Chester.

The course plays year-round, and May to September gives the best of it. Tee times can usually be had at short notice.

The club had no working website when we checked in September 2026: the address that directories still list, storwswen.co.uk, does not resolve, and storwswengolfclub.com now points at an expired-domain holding page. Rates and tee times have to be confirmed by telephone, on 01248 852673.
