Antill Park Country Golf Club

Antill Park was built by a community working bee in 1963. The first game was played in June and the nine-hole course opened officially in September. It reached twelve holes by 1966 and eighteen in 1969.

The ground is the original setting of Major Henry Colden Antill’s homestead of 1863, on the southern slopes of Razorback Mountain just north of Picton. It is a par 70 of 5,675 metres.

What it asks of you

A course built by volunteers on a hillside in 1963 was never going to move much earth, and it did not. The holes follow the slopes of Razorback, which means the lie is rarely level and the approach is almost always played up or down.

That is the whole difficulty. At 5,675 metres to a par 70 the card is not long, but a ball that lands on a slope keeps going, and the greens sit where the ground allowed rather than where an architect would have put them.

The growth from nine to twelve to eighteen holes over six years shows in the routing. Some holes have obvious room and others were fitted in, which is honest and part of the character.

Getting there and when to go

The club is just north of Picton in the Wollondilly, about eighty kilometres south west of Sydney and half an hour from Campbelltown.

The course plays all year. March to November gives the best of it. Tee times are booked in advance.
